Malaysia Airlines and Firefly Caps Flight Ticket Prices for East Malaysia at RM300
|Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently made an important announcement regarding flight ticket prices to East Malaysia. Over 17,000 one-way flights to destinations in East Malaysia will now be subject to a price cap of RM300. This initiative aims to make air travel more affordable for Malaysians, particularly those planning to visit Sabah and Sarawak. Notably, Malaysia Airlines and Firefly are among the airlines participating in this fixed fare campaign.
Beginning May 20, 2023, Malaysia Airlines will offer fixed fares capped at RM300 for one-way flights. However, it’s important to note that this price does not include government taxes and fees. This move by Malaysia Airlines aligns with the government’s effort to promote affordable air travel. For travelers heading to Sabah, the capped fares are applicable for travel on May 27, 28, and 29, 2023, to destinations including Kota Kinabalu (BKI), Labuan (LBU), Sandakan (SDK), and Tawau (TWU) via Malaysia Airlines. Firefly, on the other hand, will offer the capped fares for flights between Penang (PEN) and Kota Kinabalu (BKI).
For those planning to visit Sarawak, the RM300 capped fares will be available for travel on May 29, 30, and 31, 2023, to destinations including Kuching (KCH), Miri (MYY), Bintulu (BTU), and Sibu (SBW) via Malaysia Airlines. Additionally, Firefly will offer the capped fares for flights between Penang (PEN) and Kuching (KCH).
In response to the anticipated surge in demand during the harvest festival period from May 25 to June 5, 2023, Malaysia Airlines and Firefly have planned additional flights. Malaysia Airlines will operate 14 extra flights and upgrade one of its services to the wide-body A330 aircraft for flights into Sarawak. Furthermore, the airline will mount seven additional flights and upgrade two services for flights into Sabah. Firefly, too, is prepared to accommodate the increased demand by adding three extra flights between Penang and Kota Kinabalu, as well as two additional flights between Penang and Kuching during the travel period. These measures will help ensure that travelers have more options and flexibility when planning their trips to East Malaysia.
